Abstract

Provided is a compensator for synchronous sampling time-based servo system, a method and the making. This method operates a tape drive, which has a basic tape speed for moving a magnetic tape along with a tape head, and which generates a first tape head position signal from the tape head at a first sample frequency proportional to the basic tape speed. Further, the method comprises the steps: processing the first tape head position signal synchronized with the first sample frequency and controlling the tape head position using a control system including a compensator having a maximum phase response in a first cross over frequency; giving an interrupt signal synchronized with the first sample frequency to a processing system; and the processing system giving an output value h (k) which generates the maximum phase response at the first cross over frequency responsive to the processing system receiving the interruption signal. Thereby the invention can make synchronous sampling to further trace the center of the track tightly.

Description

[0001] This application relates to a patent application for invention with serial number US 11 / 012,952 entitled "Velocity adaptive compensator for a synchronous sampling time-base servo system" filed on December 15, 2004, the entire content of which is hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0002] The invention relates to a servo control system, in particular to a compensator for a synchronous sampling time base servo system. Background technique [0003] In the field of magnetic tape storage, higher and higher track densities are being actively sought. A typical time-base servo system will provide feedback servo signals at fixed times (time = signal pitch / tape speed). A digital track following servo will read this time feedback signal and calculate an output to control the actuator with the compensator. As the equation shows, the time that the feedback signal is valid is a function of the tape speed. The faster the tape speed, the shorter the time, or more sa...
