This signal is combined in a coupler or filter (wavelength multiplexer) 4 with the pump signal PS generated by the pump source 5 and is passed to the signal input of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) 6 that performs ODSB-OSSB conversion . The pump signal PS is used to keep the SOA in the saturation region.
