Problems solved by technology

Due to the wear of the pins, the transmission chain becomes longer, which in particular leads to jumping of the chain on the drive gear, so that the transmission function is lost
Also, the interaction between the chain links caused by the wear of the pins will generally cause more failures in the transmission, for example on a worn transmission chain, products are prone to fall and be damaged in other ways
There is even a possibility that the transmission chain may break due to wear

Embodiment Construction

[0020] Figures 1 and 2 show a hinge transmission chain 1 comprising a series of continuous links 2 formed from a steel alloy having no more than about 1.8% Cr by weight. The chain links 2 are usually hingedly connected to each other by pins 6 to form an endless chain. In the embodiment described here, the chain pin 6 is made of a steel alloy comprising at least 2.5% by weight Cu, so that the material of the chain pin 6 is substantially wear-resistant to the steel alloy of the chain link 2 .

[0021] Each chain link 2 has a substantially plate-shaped top plate 3 forming a conveying surface. Adjacent to the front side 4 of the top plate 3 , two spaced apart, rolled-up link ends 5A, 5B form a hinge ring which defines an axial opening for receiving one of the chain pins 6 . Close to the rear side of the top plate 3 , a single rolled-up link end 5C forms a hinge loop that defines openings for receiving the different chain pins 6 . The single rolled-up link end 5C is accommodated ...

Abstract

A hinge conveyor chain includes at least two link, each of the link include a pin engaging surface for engaging a pin hingedly coupling the at least two links together. A pin hingedly coupling the at least two links includes an outwardly facing surface slidably engaging at least one of the pin engaging surfaces of the surfaces of the at least two links. One of the outwardly facing surface and the at least one pin engaging surfaces of the at least two links is formed from a steel alloy with at least about 2.5 wt.% Cu and the other of the outwardly facing surface and the at least one of the pin engaging surfaces of the at least one of the at least two links is formed from a stainless steel.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] none [0003] Statement Regarding Federally Sponsored Research [0004] none Background of the invention [0005] This invention relates to the use of steel alloys in pins for hinge transmission chains, and more particularly to such pin stainless steel alloys for use in cooperation with links made of stainless steel. [0006] Stainless Steel Hinged Conveyor Chains are commonly used in mechanical projects, industrial applications where there is a heavy demand on the conveyor chain. Therefore, stainless steel conveyor chains can be loaded considerably more heavily than plastic conveyor chains. They also provide a good resistance to external disturbances, especially dirt and / or (residues of) transported products, such as street dust or other dirt from crates when transporting crates, or in e.g. the beverage industry Glass shards (pieces or glass dust) when transporting (recycled) bottles. [0007] When objects are t...
