A method, apparatus, system and computer program product are provided for transferring files stored on a source device to a target device by dragging and dropping the file from the source device touchscreen to the target device touchscreen. When the source device detects that the user has dragged the file to the edge, or other predefined location, of the source device touchscreen, the source device will automatically identify and establish a connection with the target device. Once the connection has been established, an image or icon associated with the file can be transferred to the target device, so that the user of the target device can indicate the location to which the file should be transferred by dragging the icon to that location. Once the target device user drops the icon at the predefined location, the file can be transferred to that location.

A method of requesting content from a communication server in a mobile communication network is provided. Image data defining the photograph is extracted and transmitted to a server where the image data is matched with corresponding image data relating to a plurality of pre-stored images. This invention describes a method for sharing of application specific objects between communication devices (e.g., a mobile communication device or a mobile phone) using middleware containing a peer-to-peer engine. This engine is completely peer-to-peer based and no servers are needed in the network. Especially games are seen as a promising potential application for the invention. An application registers to the peer-to-peer (P2P) engine when it wants to share or download files. The P2P engine takes care of the file sharing and informs when a new file has been downloaded so the application can start using it and the P2P engine delivers them to the appropriate application directories. The P2P engine can use either a 2G or 3G general packet radio system (GPRS), a wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) or a Bluetooth as a transport for the file sharing and the choice of the transport is left to the user.

The present invention is directed to a system and method which allows for the seamless integration of the sending mechanism with the media acquiring mechanism of a portable device. Systems and methods for enhancing the exchange of data, particularly media data, among remote locations. In one embodiment, instructions are added to a delivered media message. The instructions are such as to control the processing of the media at the receiving device as well as controlling response messages. This then allows a sending device to enable a return connection from the target location thereby facilitating the return to the sending device of data. The retuned data can be specified by the sender, by the target or by a combination of them. In one embodiment, a intermediary server is used to control the data flow across the network.
