Problems solved by technology

Clearly, there is a serious mismatch of one or two orders of magnitude between what conventional microprocessors can deliver and what the environment requires
Although it is possible to use multiple parallel microprocessor systems to perform certain required functions at a target rate, this significantly increases the cost of the system

Embodiment Construction

[0036] Described herein is a programmable rules processing device for high-speed contextual searches of arbitrary-length patterns in documents, messages, or other content. The rule processor provides a custom framework for content search and analysis. In one embodiment, the rules processor allows for high-speed parallelism and recursive ordering of rules for content payloads, allowing for efficient processing of intensive rule syntax workloads.

[0037] Architecturally, the rule processor employs a set of input payload search registers. The search register file holds the input data (or content payload) to be submitted to various search rules. Data can be loaded into the search registers from memory, or moved into and out of search registers from other sources in the rule processor. In one embodiment, various searches can be performed on the contents of the search register. These searches are specified in the form of search instructions or search rules presented to the paylo...

Abstract

Disclosed herein is a method and apparatus for a rule processor for context searching, the processor including a plurality of input load search registers connected to the plurality of search registers for executing a rule in parallel in response to executing a rule pattern matching a search execution engine that performs one or more contextual searches on the contents of the search register, the rules specifying one or more searches and submitting one or more patterns to the contents of the search register.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application is a non-provisional application of US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 60 / 406,834, filed August 28,2002. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to the field of information processing, in particular the field of content analytics and processing. Background technique [0004] Significant trends in the fields of computing and communications have led to the emergence of an environment permeated with content analytics and processing. These environments require high performance and programmability for certain types of functions, namely searching, parsing, analyzing, interpreting and transforming the content of messages, documents or information packets. Notable areas highlighting the high-volume content analytics and processing described include content-aware networking, content-based security systems, surveillance, distributed computing, wireless communications, human-computer interfaces, information ...
