Abstract

A fixing unit of an image forming apparatus includes a heat roller, a pressure roller disposed opposite to the heat roller, and rotatably supports the heat roller at both longitudinal ends thereof, and covers the heat roller from a side opposite to the pressure roller while exposing the pressure roller outside the box. A pair of pressure roller support plates supported at one end of the box can rotatably support the two ends of the pressure roller. With this structure, a more compact fixing unit can be produced, compared with the structure in which the casing completely covers the heating roller and the pressure roller at the same time. The fixing unit includes a thermal fuse that suppresses an abnormal temperature rise in the heating roller, and a thermal fuse cover that extends from an inner wall of the case to provide insulation between the thermal fuse and the heating roller. The manufacturing cost of the fixing unit can be reduced by integrally forming the thermal fuse cover and the box body. A supporting member may also be provided between the bottom surface of the case and the thermal fuse cover to restrain the thermal fuse cover from being deformed.
