Problems solved by technology

Furthermore, since the audible instructions are provided by the defibrillator in only one language, several rescuers who are fluent in different languages will not be able to all benefit from the audible instructions provided by the defibrillator during the administration of therapy, thus preventing the receipt of assistance from one or another individual

Embodiment Construction

[0014] FIG. 1 is a block diagram of a defibrillator system 100 according to one embodiment of the present invention. The defibrillator system 100 includes an energy source 112 that provides electrical power or current pulses. Controller 120 operates energy delivery system 119 to selectively connect and disconnect energy source 112 via electrode interface 114 to and disconnect energy source 112 from a pair of electrodes 116 connected to the defibrated Vibrator system 100. Electrodes 116 may be electrically connected to patient 118 to provide electrical therapy to the patient. Defibrillator system 100 may be a manual defibrillator or AED. Alternatively, defibrillator system 100 may be a defibrillator trainer that simulates the behavior of a manual or automatic / semi-automatic defibrillator in use, in which case electrode interface 114 and energy delivery system 119 may be omitted .

Abstract

A multilingual defibrillator is capable of concurrently providing audible prompts for the operation of the defibrillator in multiple languages. The defibrillator includes a memory for storing data files representative of audibl e prompts in a plurality of languages. A controller is coupled to the memory and configured to select data files of audible prompts in first and second languages and generate first electrical signals and second electrical signals representative of the audible prompts in the first and second languages, respectively. First and second audible sound generators are coupled to the controller to receive respective electrical signals and configured to generate audible output in response to the respective electric al signals.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an external defibrillator whose operating language can be easily changed when the defibrillator is used. Background technique [0002] Sudden cardiac arrest ("SCA") often occurs without warning, striking people with no history of heart problems. It is estimated that just over 1000 people fall victim to sudden cardiac arrest every day in the United States alone. SCA is caused when the electrical part of the heart no longer works properly, resulting in an abnormal sinus rhythm. One such abnormal sinus rhythm is called ventricular fibrillation ("VF"), which is caused by abnormal and rapid electrical activity in the heart. As a result, the heart fails to adequately circulate blood through the body. VF can be treated by using a defibrillator to deliver an electrical shock to the patient's heart. Defibrillators include manual defibrillators, automated or semi-automated external defibrillators ("AEDs"), combined defibrilla...
