Embodiment Construction

[0034] figure 1 A preferred embodiment of the protector assembly 1 of the invention mounted on the rear of a truck 2 is shown. In general, the protective device 1 comprises a base part 3 mounted relatively permanently on the truck 2 and a shock absorbing part 4 held by the base part 3 . The base member 3 may be mounted on the truck 2 by any suitable mechanism, but it is preferred that the base member is welded to the vehicle. The shown installation locations of the guard assemblies are exemplary only. The protector assembly 1 may be mounted at other locations on the vehicle.

[0035] figure 2 A perspective view of the protector assembly 1 viewed from the proximal end is shown. The damping element 4 is shown in a holding position relative to the base part 3 , wherein the damping element 4 is held by the base part 3 . More specifically, the shock absorbing member 4 is held adjacent to the base member 3 . The mechanism by which the base member 3 holds the shock absorber 4 ...

Abstract

A protector assembly (1) for attachment to a vehicle such as a truck. The assembly includes a base member (3) which is permanently attached to the truck and a cushion member (4) which is retained adjacent the base member (3) by retention means (8). The cushion member (4) is slidable relative to the base member between the retention position and a release position whereby in the release position the cushion member is no longer retained by the retention means. The cushion member includes a mounting portion (10) formed from a relatively hard material which engages the retention means, and a working portion (11) formed from a relatively soft resilient elastomeric material.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a protector assembly for protecting a vehicle against impact forces. The protective device is specifically applied to land vehicles such as trucks. For convenience, the present invention will be described below in conjunction with this specific application. It should be clear, however, that the invention may be applied to non-land vehicles such as boats. Background technique [0002] Vehicles such as trucks move goods from one point to another, and it is often desirable to minimize the time the truck spends standing still during loading and unloading. Elevated docking platforms located at these points can save considerable time during loading and unloading because they provide the platform at a height substantially similar to that of a truck bed. In general, the truck bed or bed is preferably mated to the platform or structure supporting the platform. This is to minimize the distance between the platform and the unde...
