The invention provides a method and a system which can reconnect the broken link of an instant communication. The method is applied to an instant communication system with a plurality of client ends and server ends. The steps are: (1) on the condition that the server end detects user broken link at first, the steps are processed: an information back-up step, the server end back-ups the information of the user; automatic reconnecting step in background, the client end automatically reconnected in the background and sends an automatic reconnecting order to the background; and an entering permitting step, according to the automatic reconnecting order, the server end judges whether to permit the reentering of the user. Or (2) on the condition that the client end detects user broken link at first, only the automatic reconnecting step in background step, and the entering permitting step are processed. On the condition that the dialogue between the client end and the server end is broken, the automatic reconnecting is realized in the client end without causing the change in an interface; on the condition that the server end detects user broken link at first, the information during the broken link can be stored later.
