Problems solved by technology

Disposable brushes, however, still suffer from the above-mentioned major drawbacks, namely higher manufacturing and material costs, and disposable brushes run the risk of causing damage to the endoscope and causing significant damage to the user. Occupational health hazards, need to go through many times in use, which is time-consuming and expensive, and has unreliable efficacy

Embodiment Construction

[0048] Referring to Fig. 1, a flexible endoscope 1 is schematically shown in cross-section. The endoscope 1 has a length of about 2 meters and comprises a biopsy lumen 2 extending from a distal end 3 to a biopsy port 4 . The suction cavity 5 communicates with the distal end 3 from the suction port 6 through the suction valve 7 in the control head 8 , and extends parallel to the living tissue pipeline in the shell 9 in the region between the living tissue mouth 4 and the distal end 3 . In the example described, the diameter of the living tissue channel is 2.8 mm and the diameter of the suction channel is 4.0 mm.

[0049] Referring to Figure 2, there is shown a cylindrical portion of the cavity comprising a cavity wall 10 and defining a cavity axis 11 corresponding to the cylindrical axis of the cavity. The cylindrical cavity also defines a cavity radial direction, for example 12 , perpendicular to the axial direction 11 . Any two radials extending from a point on the axis tog...

Abstract

Disposable endoscope cleaning device and method, wherein the device comprises an elongate member, preferably a monofilament, and a wiper formed from a resiliently deformable elastomeric material integrally molded with the member , or multiple wipers. The elongate element axially drives the generally disc-shaped wiper in the direction of the cavity axis, while at the same time the wiper remains oriented in a cavity radial plane from adjacent axial to adjacent cavity wall. The preceding wiper has a diameter greater than the inner diameter of the cavity, but is resiliently deformable, preferably with a radially different stiffness, so that the wiper bends at or near the cavity wall in the direction it is dragged , such that the perimeter edge of the wiper contacts the wall along a band extending an arc of 360 degrees. The device allows cleaning of multiple lumens of different diameters in one endoscope.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a device for cleaning endoscopes, and a method of using said device. The device and method are particularly suitable for cleaning flexible endoscopes having multiple lumens of different diameters, but are not limited to this application. Background technique [0002] Recently, the variety of diagnostic examinations performed using flexible endoscopes has been increasing, and new specialty endoscopes have been continuously developed to suit various diagnostic and interventional procedures. [0003] There is a growing recognition of the larger infection control problems presented by these medical devices. In fact, flexible endoscopes present the most extreme problem of being difficult to "reprocess" (ie, clean and sterilize) medical devices. Not only were the devices large - probably more than 4 meters long - but they were also very complex. These devices are generally completely opaque and fragile; these devices may include f...
