[0021] In at least some embodiments, the invention includes a two-piece, generally cylindrical housing having lower and upper housing units constructed of plastic, aluminum, or other such suitable material. The lower housing unit may be formed integrally with the engine crankcase, or may be a separate component mounted to the engine crankcase (design shown as separate mount). The bottom surface of the lower housing unit includes: a male threaded portion extending upwardly from the bottom surface (for mounting the spin-on oil filter) and a concentric flat gasket surface (for sealing against the spin-on oil filter gasket ). The lower housing unit has threaded or quarter-turn type formations on the outer wall to facilitate attachment to the upper housing unit (quarter-turn configuration shown).
