[0017] Features of modern TEs and DCDs have led to a growing need for certain client service interface features not easily found in the prior art. For example, to facilitate application client software implementation, it would be desirable to have a set of service commands defined for the client service interface independent of the particular technology used by the data communications device. Additionally, for flexible control, it would be desirable to have a communication channel between the computing device and the data communication device that can support simultaneous data and control sessions. Furthermore, it would be desirable to have a multiplexing protocol capable of simultaneously supporting multiple clients on a single or multiple computing devices to communicate with multiple services running on a single or multiple communication devices.
