Embodiment Construction

[0031] Mechanisms according to embodiments provide peer-to-peer content communication between wireless devices using a communication network. Specifically, the present embodiments enable wireless devices to set up peer-to-peer communication paths to exchange content (eg, voice, text, video, and other multimedia content) without the need for dedicated network servers. Furthermore, embodiments enable wireless devices to set up communication paths using different services such as short message service and packet data service.

[0032] image 3 An embodiment is depicted for routing content 303 (e.g., data files) between two wireless devices 300, 302 connected to a communication network 304, such as a CDMA network, GPRS network, UMTS network, and other types of Communications network. A peer-to-peer (PTP) application 621 (ie, a set of executable instructions) resident on each wireless device 300 , 302 is executable to enable the exchange of content 303 between the wireless device...

Abstract

A system for a server-less peer-to-peer data network for content transfer between wireless devices is described. The system includes a first wireless device having a first address and content, and a second wireless device. The first wireless device transmits a message including the first address over a first service. The second wireless device receives the message from the first wireless device and establishes a communication path to the first address over a second service to receive the content from the first wireless device. A method embodiment includes transmitting a message from a first wireless device to a second wireless device over a first service, wherein the message includes a first address. The method further includes establishing, by the second wireless device, a communication path over a second service to the first address to receive content from the first wireless device after receiving the message from the first wireless device.

Description

[0001] Claim of priority under 35 U.S.C. §119 [0002] This patent application claims priority to Provisional Application No. 60 / 683,389, filed May 20, 2005, entitled "METHODS AND APPARATUSFOR PROVIDING PEER-TO-PEER DATA NETWORKING FOR WIRELESS DEVICES," and said provisional application assigned to the present assignee and is hereby incorporated by reference herein. technical field [0003] The disclosed embodiments relate to peer-to-peer network connections of wireless devices. Background technique [0004] Advances in technology have produced smaller and more powerful personal computing devices. For example, there currently exist a variety of portable personal computing devices, including wireless computing devices, such as portable wireless telephones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and paging devices, each of which is small, lightweight, and user-friendly. carry. More specifically, portable wireless telephones further include cellular telephones, for example, wh...
