When added to a pharmaceutical agent or a beverage / food, the composition can exerts an effect of preventing a vascular disease because of its cholesterol level-lowering effect, an effect of preventing breast cancer or prostate cancer, and an effect of preventing and / or treating osteoporosis. When added to an animal feedstuff or a pet food, the composition can exert an effect of increasing the bone density to thereby prevent the leg weakness in pigs, strengthen an egg shell in egg-laying chickens, and prevent osteoporosis in dogs or the like.Thus, disclosed are: a composition comprising lactobionic acid, a salt thereof or lactobionolactone as an active ingredient; and a beverage / food, animal feedstuff, pet food or a pharmaceutical agent comprising the composition and having an effect of preventing or treating osteoporosis, an effect of increasing the bone density, an effect of preventing breast / prostate cancer, and an effect of lowering the cholesterol level.
