Embodiment Construction

[0012] The following descriptions of the embodiments are only practical examples, and are not intended to limit the invention and its application or use in any way. Unless otherwise noted, the process embodiments described herein are not intended to be limited to a particular order or sequence. In addition, some of the embodiments or elements may occur or be completed at the same time.

[0013] Any wet material can be dried by using the following drying methods and greenhouse. Wood-based materials that are effectively dried using this method exhibit better properties.

[0014] As used herein, the term "wood-based material" refers to any solid material, including fibrous structures composed of cellulose and / or hemicellulose. The term "wood-based material" includes wood species of various geometries. Compliant wood types may include, but are not limited to: soft wood, hard wood (e.g. maple, oak), preservative wood, bamboo wood, corn stalks, bagasse, straw (such as straw, whea...

Abstract

A method of drying comprises placing a moist material inside a substantially enclosed solar greenhouse. The greenhouse comprises at least one light transmission roof and / or wall panel that is substantially transparent to solar radiation, but resistant to convective and conductive heat transfer. The interior temperature and humidity of the greenhouse are maintained within their pre-determined ranges while the interior moisture of the greenhouse is effectively reduced to allow a controlled drying of the material. A solar greenhouse for the drying process is also disclosed.

Description

technical field [0001] The field to which the invention relates is drying processes and greenhouses for wood-based materials. Background technique [0002] Greenhouses are widely used for the growth of agricultural products including vegetables, fruits, flowers and other indoor plants in which a narrow temperature range is required for plant growth. When the temperature in the greenhouse is outside this range, the plants will suffer irreparable damage or death. Controlling relative humidity in an agricultural greenhouse is not very important as long as the soil is adequately watered. It is also not advisable to remove a lot of water from agricultural greenhouses, because more water will be replenished into the soil, otherwise the plants will be dehydrated. [0003] Wood drying is generally accomplished by using a drying kiln unit, heated by steam or a direct heat source such as a wood-burning stove or gas oven. Dry kiln units consume large amounts of fuel and electricity ...
