Problems solved by technology

Too little tension can cause the conveyor chain to pull the sprocket teeth up and eventually disengage in harsh conditions
Conversely, excessive tension can cause belt components to be overstressed, increasing the risk of mechanical failure of individual parts of the conveying equipment

[0044] image 3 show figure 2 A modified form of the tension sensing device 60 is shown. Typically, wear strips 101 are installed to guide the conveyor belt 16 down to the level of the walkway or track 54A to best utilize the length of the tailgate end or return end or portion 51 . image 3 The tensioning device or tension sensor 104 includes a wear strip 101 that includes a wear plate 108 that contacts the top surface of the conveyor belt 16 .

[0045] The wear plate 108 is supported by the wear strip support 112 and is connected to the wear strip support 112 by a pin 116 at one end and a load sensing pin 120 at the other end. Wear plate 108 engages the top surface of conveyor belt 16 and alters the path or course of travel of conveyor belt 16 . This contact and the change in direction of the conveyor belt 16 causes a force to be applied to the wear plate 108 . Load sensing pins 120 connecting wear plate 108 to wear strip support 112 sense this force. The output from th...

Abstract

Dual sensor chain break detector. A device for detecting and adjusting the tension of a scraping chain is provided. The device identifies a broken chain as it exits the return sprocket and enters the top lane of the conveyor belt. When detected, the chain can be automatically stopped by the armored face conveyor control system, thereby avoiding the possibility of further damage and alerting the operator that the chain needs to be repaired. The device also provides a conveyor belt with carriages at both ends, allowing the belt ends to be independently adjusted to each end of the coal pillar while maintaining good chain tension and control.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a mechanism for controlling the position of a chain conveyor belt and for detecting and adjusting the tension of the scraping chain of the chain conveyor belt. Background technique [0002] Conveyor belts, such as armored face belts, are part of an integrated longwall system that also includes coal cutters and roof supports. Since the longwall system removes mineral matter from the block one (rib) at a time, the load on the conveyor belt changes as the cutter moves along the conveyor belt. The conveyor belt is progressively advanced one edge to reset itself for the next cut. [0003] A continuous chain and flight assembly, driven by sprockets at each end of the conveyor belt, drags the minerals to be mined along the top path of the conveyor belt. More specifically, the spaced apart chains with the link plates connecting the chains are ordinary chains. At the delivery end, the minerals are discharged onto an adjacent conveyor...
