Abstract

The invention provides network element equipment and a method for protection switching of a backbone optical path. The method comprises the following steps of: creating a protection group for the network element equipment, wherein the protection group comprises a passive optical network (PON) protection port and a plurality of PON working ports; and when the protection switching is performed, switching switched optical paths of the PON working ports in the protection group to the PON protection port and the optical path corresponding to the PON protection port. By adoption of the technical scheme of the invention, the redundant protection of 1:N can be provided for the optical paths, so that operating cost is saved greatly.
