Abstract

An embodiment of the present invention discloses a protection switching device and a method, relates to the field of communication, and can reduce waste of hardware resources for the protection switching. The device comprises: input cache units, control units and processing units, which are shared by at least two ports and have a total number less than number of the ports; wherein the input cacheunit is used for storing a switching information encoding and a work protection group, the switching information encoding comprises data transmission channel defect state information, the work protection group comprises alternative data transmission channel information; the control unit is used for indicating the input cache unit to send the switching information encoding and the work protection group to the processing unit; and the processing is used for indicating a target data transmission channel to a data transmission channel where a fault occurs from the alternative data transmission channels. The device and the method of the present invention are used for protection switching control.
