Disclosed is an air conditioner having a fire extinguishing system in addition to an air con not ditioning system, the air conditioner comprising: a fire sensing unit which senses a fire; a controller which controls the air conditioning system and the fire extinguishing system; an automatic fire extinguishing unit which automatically spray extinguishing gas under control of the controller; and a fire alarm unit which outputs a fire alarm under the control of the controller, the controller controlling the fire alarm unit to output a first fire alarm when receiving a first sensing signal from the fire sensing unit, the fire alarm unit to output a second fire alarm when receiving a second sensing signal from the fire sensing unit after a lapse of t seconds after receiving the first sensing signal, and the air conditioning system to stop and the automatic fire extinguishing unit to operate to spray the extinguishing gas after a lapse of t seconds after outputting the second fire alarm.
