When present in a monomer-containing composition, the combination of naphthoquinone and oxygen-containing aminophenol provides an unexpectedly beneficial anti-polymerization agent effect, thereby inhibiting the formation of unwanted fouling polymers. The anti-polymerization agent combination can be added to a hydrocarbon composition, such as petroleum, that can include a polymerizable component, such as styrene, wherein the hydrocarbon composition is purified or processed, such as under distillation.

Amine containing copolymers via emulsion polymerization and methods of use thereof

Disclosed herein are aqueous based copolymer emulsion compositions based on emulsion polymerization of monomer compositions including an amine-derivatized alpha-methyl styrene (ADAMS) monomer according to structure (I):with k, R, R1, and R2 defined herein. The aqueous based copolymer emulsion compositions include (i) from 1 to 60 wt. % of the one or more copolymers, (ii) from 0.05 to 5.0 wt. % of one or more one or more surfactants selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactants, cationic surfactants, nonionic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants, and combinations thereof; and (iii) the remainder of the composition comprising water. Further disclosed herein are methods of making and methods for using such aqueous based copolymer emulsion compositions.
