The method comprises the following steps: building a three-dimensional cable model by using a virtual reality technology, and building a cable core resistance distribution model according to operation parameters of a tested cable; making a virtual three-dimensional shell of a bridge of a cable failure locator by using the virtual reality technology, and setting a three-dimensional key and a three-dimensional dial on the three-dimensional shell; responding to an instruction input by a user through the three-dimensional key, carrying out a failure location simulated test upon a tested cable by using the bridge method; calculating proportion value of resistors of the bridge according to the cable core resistance distribution model, and displaying the proportion value on the three-dimensional dial; calculating a failure spot of the cable according to the proportion value, and displaying the failure spot at a corresponding position on the cable three-dimensional model. With the adoption of the method for simulating the cable failure location disclosed by the invention, visible simulation of cable failure location is realized, important direct reference for removal of cable failure is provided, the safety of power supply is ensured, the efficiency of security work is improved; and the method has very high promotion value.
