Abstract

Disclosed is a vacuum degassing apparatus in which bubbles in molten glass come into contact with an inner wall of an upper space of a vacuum degassing tank and molten glass flowing along the inner wall can be discharged to outside of the vacuum degassing tank. The vacuum degassing tank is provided with a ceiling part, a peripheral wall part, and a bottom wall part for defining the upper space and an accommodating part for the molten glass. The peripheral wall part which comes into contact with the molten glass is formed from a combination of a plurality of tank bricks, and the upper space is formed from a combination of a plurality of arch bricks. Of the plurality of arch bricks forming the upper space, the arch bricks which come into contact with the top of the tank bricks are arranged on the upper surface of the tank bricks by positioning the lower part of the surface on the accommodating part side of said arch bricks further to the outer side than the surface of the tank bricks that comes into contact with the molten glass. A storage part for the molten glass is formed between the upper surface of the tank bricks and the lower part of the arch bricks disposed thereon. A molten glass discharge flow passage which communicates with outside of the vacuum degassing tank is formed at a joining portion of the arch bricks and the tank bricks facing the storage part.
