Embodiment 1

[0029] The personal care compositions of the present invention comprise an aqueous dispersion comprising an ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer. Examples of such aqueous dispersions include the following:

[0030] Batch 1

[0031] 41.7% solids aqueous dispersion of ethylene-acrylic acid and metallocene catalyzed polyolefin (commercially available from Dow Chemical Company under the tradename HYPOD 8510, produced using Dow's BLUEWAVE technology).

[0032] Batch 2

[0033] PRIMACOR 5980i 20% ethylene acrylic resin (60 grams), potassium hydroxide (25 grams, 30% by weight) and water (21 grams) were placed in a 300 mL Parr reactor equipped with Cowles blades. The material was heated to 120°C while mixing slowly. Once the set temperature was reached, the mixer was run at high speed (-1800 rpm) for 25 minutes. While continuing to mix at high speed, the sample was diluted to the desired concentration of 25.7 wt% solids (based on the amount of ethylene-acrylic acid resin) with water...

Embodiment 2

[0035] Exemplary hair dyes of the present invention comprise the ingredients listed in Table 1 on a weight / weight (wt.%) basis.

[0036] Table 1

[0037]

[0038] To the bottle labeled "Color Gel" was added ingredients substantially similar to Batch 1 or Batch 2 to a final concentration of 1% Batch 1 or 1% Batch 2.

Embodiment 3

[0039] Embodiment 3 (contrast)

[0040] A conventional hair dye composition comprises the ingredients listed in Table 2 on a weight / weight (wt.%) basis.

[0041] Table 2

[0042]

[0043] The procedure of Example 2 was used except batch 1 or batch 2 was replaced with an equal amount of water.

Abstract

Described are hair colorant compositions comprising an aqueous dispersion comprising an ethylene acrylic acid copolymer, and optionally a metallocene catalyzed polyolefin. an aqueous dispersion comprising a metallocene catalyzed polyolefin and an ethylene acrylic acid copolymer, and methods of reducing hair damage from hair colorants, comprising including an aqueous dispersion comprising a metallocene catalyzed polyolefin and an ethylene acrylic acid copolymer in the hair colorant.

Description

technical field [0001] This application relates to personal care compositions. Background technique [0002] "Long-lasting" hair coloring products and lighteners are generally achieved by bleaching the hair's natural pigment (melanin), and then replacing the melanin with the desired shade. Hair coloring is usually performed via oxidizable dye intermediates (typically para and ortho aromatic diamines which are susceptible to oxidation and are desired for light and dark shades and depth of color) and finished dyes or hair colorants. Developers (oxidizing agents, usually based on peroxides) are used to remove natural pigments and activate dyes and couplers. A basifying agent (usually an ammonia solution) also reacts with the dye intermediate to help impart the desired color. To prevent premature reaction, the developer is usually packaged in a separate bottle from the basifying agent. [0003] Both peroxides and ammonia compounds are known to damage hair and their reaction s...
