Embodiment Construction

[0014] Embodiments of the present invention are described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the following description, descriptions of some known functions and configurations are omitted for clarity and conciseness.

[0015] A cold boot (also known as a hard boot) occurs when power is cycled to the device (i.e. turned off and on) or when the processor receives a special reset signal. A cold start can be caused by a power loss, such as an accident or a user intentionally trying to restore the system from an initial state or a point of critical error.

[0016] A warm boot (also known as a soft boot) is the use of software control to restart a computer with continuous power applied. Typically, it refers to shutting down and restarting the device without removing power.

[0017] In some systems, each time a device is started, the device will determine whether the start is a cold start or a hot start, and notify the SNMP management device of the start type...

Abstract

It is provided a method for distinguishing between cold boot and warm boot of a device, wherein the device comprises a volatile memory containing a flag used for indicating boot type, the method comprises the step of determining boot type by reading the flag; wherein, the method further comprises upon detection of a message indicating occurrence of power outage, changing data of the volatile memory in such a way that make the device fail to determine the boot type as warm boot.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to electronic equipment, and in particular to a method and device for distinguishing between cold start and hot start. Background technique [0002] Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a UDP-based network protocol. It is usually used in network management systems to monitor network devices to ensure management needs. SNMP is defined by the Engineering Task Force (IETF) as an integral part of the network protocol package. It includes a series of standards for network management, including application layer protocols, database systems and a series of data objects. SNMP presents management data in the managed system in the form of variables that describe the system configuration. These variables can be found (and set) by using the management application. [0003] In a typical SNMP application, one or more management computers called managers need to monitor or manage a group of hosts or devices in the network. E...
