Abstract

The present invention provides a small cell discovery method in a heterogeneous network to obtain effective cell search and better power consumption saving. In one novel aspect, the small cell is measured only when the UE comes within the proximity of the small cell. For example, the UE detects the approach of the small cell and reports the approach information to the network. Based on the proximity indication, the network provides an appropriate measurement configuration for the small cell. In a second novel aspect, the UE performs a suggestion search for small cell discovery. In the third novel aspect, when the UE enters the vicinity of the small cell, the UE increases the search rate of the small cell and decreases the search rate of the small cell when the UE is not within the vicinity of the small cell. The detection can be based on the network-provided Location information, or based on proximity detection information automatically stored by the UE.
