Embodiment Construction

[0010] figure 1 is a high-level block diagram of a system for recording, interpreting, and collecting user responses to multimedia content rendered on a mobile communication device (eg, a smartphone) according to one embodiment of the present invention. The mobile handset device 100 includes a wireless transceiver 115 and a processor and memory 130 . A mobile handset device 100 is capable of wireless access to the Internet, wherein such a handset is also commonly referred to as a smartphone. The mobile handset device 100 receives information from a multimedia creator or publisher 180 (e.g., Google ) to receive the content. For example, publisher 180 may utilize server system 182 having one or more processors and memory to serve content that consumers download to their mobile handsets. Middleware vendor 190 may also use server system 192 with one or more processors and memory. Middleware vendor 190 may be any organization that provides software that acts as an intermediary...

Abstract

A mobile handset device collects sensor data about the physiological state of the user of the handset. The mobile handset device receives multimedia content, which is consumed on the mobile handset. In a deployment phase, the sensor data is used to classify the user's emotional response to individual pieces of media content consumed on the mobile device. A classification model built in a training phase may be used to map sensor data to classification labels indicative of the user's emotional response to multimedia.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to evaluating the effectiveness of multimedia content provided to mobile handset devices (eg, literature, video, music, and applications received and consumed on the mobile handset device). More specifically, the present invention is directed to determining a likely emotional state of a user in response to multimedia content consumed on a mobile handset device. Background technique [0002] Users of mobile handset devices (or "smart phones") have the opportunity to browse many different documents, photos, videos, music, applications, and other types of multimedia on their smart phones. For creators and publishers of multimedia content (such as designers, authors, artists, and programmers), it is very important to get feedback from users about the content, because it allows content creators and publishers to improve their products and direct their efforts towards new opportunities. [0003] However, getting feed...
