The method applied to the cloud server includes: creating an index file related with a user in the cloud server, receiving index information uploaded via one or multiple terminals by the user and saving the index information into the index file related with the user, receiving a searching request sent via a certain terminal by the user, searching in the index file related with the user according to searching keywords carried in the searching request, and returning searching results to the user. By the method, occupation of a searching system to local hard disk space is reduced greatly, the searching efficiency is increased, content of multiple computers can be combined to subject to uniform searching, and meanwhile, content stored in a local computer of the user can be searched through a mobile terminal.
