Abstract

A dentifrice composition containing a polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight of from about 3,000 to about 8,000, glycerin, precipitated silica, and a fluoride source. The polyethylene glycol forms a crystalline structure in the composition and the composition has a water activity from about 0.25 to about 0.46 measured at about 22° C.

Background technique [0002] Traditionally, much effort has been expended balancing the many important consumer-related factors in oral care compositions such as dentifrices. Due to the properties of such compositions, consumers have expected various functional benefits such as cleansing, whitening, gum health, and the like. However, since the composition is typically used in the mouth and delivered by using a toothbrush, additional attention must be paid to viscosity, rheological properties, mouthfeel and taste, as these are also important to consumers.
