[0041] The transformation of the electricity grid to a smart grid is being promoted by many governments as a way to address issues of energy autonomy and continuity, global warming, and emergency restoration. Lighting systems will be one of the important building block systems of smart grids for dynamic load management services such as DR. To match electricity generation and transmission / use in such smart grids, many challenges coexist with dynamic load management. For example, existing load management strategies are event-driven and reactive, managing load (load shedding) only when a DR signal is received from the smart grid. Accordingly, Applicants have recognized and appreciated the need to provide methods and apparatus for proactively budgeting power usage of one or more lighting networks and managing the load of such lighting networks.
