Abstract

A remote access device is disclosed that provides electronic display identification data (EDID) information associated with a monitor that is communicating with the device to any one of a plurality of remote computers in communication with the device, and A remote computer selected in this remote computer does not need to be restarted. A plurality of multiplexers are controlled by the controller for coupling a selected one of the computers to a display data channel (DDC) interface associated with the monitor. A storage device storing the EDID information is accessible by each of the computers and by the controller. The controller controls the multiplexer so that any selected one of the computers can communicate with the monitor and access an associated one of the storage devices to obtain stored EDID information, or enable the EDID Information can be loaded into each of the storage devices.
