The method includes detecting the quantity of picture layers currently displayed on a display screen; judging whether the quantity of the picture layers is smaller than a preset value or not; starting an MEMC (motion estimate and motion compensation) function of an MEMC processing module under the control if the quantity of the picture layers is smaller than the preset value, correspondingly processing signals, and then transmitting the signals to the display screen to display the signals; disabling the MEMC function of the MEMC processing module under the control if the quantity of the picture layers is not smaller than the preset value, and directly transmitting the signals to the display screen to display the signals. The signals are obtained after OSD signals and video signals are mixed with one another, and the OSD signals and the video signals are received by the MEMC processing module. The invention further discloses a device for protecting the OSD pictures.
