Abstract

A system for protecting a power supply includes a power supply unit (PSU), an integrated baseboard management controller (IBMC), and a platform controller hub (PCH). The IBMC includes a receiving module and a comparison module. When the PSU enters a protection mode and is shut down, but the PCH maintains outputting a power on signal to power on the PSU, the PSU continues outputting a power good signal to the receiving module. The receiving module counts a number of times of receiving the power good signal within a predetermined time period, and outputs the counted number of times. The comparison module compares the counted number of times with a reference value, and outputs a control signal to the PCH when the counted number of times is greater than the reference value. The PCH stops outputting the power on signal to the PSU after receiving the control signal.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a power protection system and method. Background technique [0002] PSU (Power Supply unit, power supply unit) provides electrical energy for electronic equipment (such as personal computers, workstations, servers, etc.), which is the most basic prerequisite for maintaining the normal operation of electronic equipment. In order to ensure the quality of electronic equipment, manufacturers need to strictly test the performance of the PSU. When performing the Fan Fail test on the PSU, if the PSU detects that there is a problem with the fan, the PSU will activate the protection mode and automatically shut down. However, the motherboard will still send a power-on signal to the PSU, causing the PSU to restart continuously. The heat generated by the continuous restart of the PSU will accumulate on the control board of the PSU, and the control board of the PSU may be burned due to overheating, and then the entire PSU will be scrapped...
