Embodiment Construction

[0014] figure 1 A standard Ethernet network 10 is shown, in this example as an access network to the Internet or to another external network connected to the Internet. The connection to the external network is ensured by a router 18 connected to a converged network consisting of standard self-learning Ethernet switches 14,16. The structure and function of the switches 14, 16 of the aggregation network are well known in the art and so will not be discussed further here. As shown, two users, User A 20-1 and User B 20-2, are connected to the network 10 through access nodes 12-1, 12-2. The illustrated user is a PC, but it can be understood that other devices may also constitute user equipment. Conventional access nodes 12-1, 12-2 comprise Fiber Ethernet Access ELN200 or ADSL Ethernet modernm EDA ESN312 IPDSLAM manufactured by Ericsson. The access nodes 12-1, 12-2 of this embodiment may be based on these known devices but include the following additional functions and features. ...

Abstract

In a standard Ethernet access network for accessing the Internet, no technical safety measure prevents a user from illegally misappropriating groups from other users through changes of address information of the user or from only disguising an identity of the user. A filtering mechanism is achieved at an access node, so integral safety of the network is improved, and simplicity and the transmission speed of the Ethernet access network are not sacrificed. The filtering mechanism performs filtering on a group, which is sent by the user and connected to an access node, by utilizing a combined distributed IP target address and a distributed MAC address. Any group which is sent to the user and which includes an incorrect MAC or IP address is blocked.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the security of public networks, such as the Internet, for users connected to a shared medium access network, such as Ethernet. Background technique [0002] When using the Internet, it is desirable to identify users by a dedicated Internet Protocol (IP) address. This helps to identify illegal business or behavior that is dangerous to, for example, national security. However, if the user is connected to the Internet via a public Ethernet network, identification of the user becomes more difficult, because in standard networks the user changes his IP address and MAC address (this behavior is often called "spoofing") There are no technical barriers. The term "public Ethernet" refers to an Ethernet network in which the core network consists of self-learning switches or nodes that form a converged network. Switching over the converged network is accomplished using the packet's destination Media Access Control (MAC) addres...
