The refrigerant leakage detection method includes the following steps of controlling the compressor to start and detecting the coil temperature of the outdoor heat exchanger to obtain the initial temperature when the air conditioner runs in a heating mode, obtaining the running frequency of the compressor and the working current of the air conditioner after the compressor is started for a preset time, and judging whether the running frequency of the compressor and the working current of the air conditioner meet the preset conditions or not, detecting the coil temperature of the outdoor heat exchanger again to obtain multiple detection temperatures if the running frequency of the compressor and the working current of the air conditioner meet the preset conditions, sequentially comparing the detection temperatures with the initial temperature, and judging whether refrigerant leakage happens to the air conditioner or not according to the comparison results.
