The wire fault positioning method comprises the following steps: currents flowing through transformers at two sides of each-phase wire in a fault happening region at the same time are measured, currents through transformers at two sides of the A phase, currents through transformers at two sides of the B phase, and currents through transformers at two sides of the C phase are obtained respectively; a sum value, a difference value and absolute values corresponding to the sum value and the difference value of currents at two sides corresponding to transformers at two sides of each-phase wire are respectively calculated; and through detecting the relationship between the sum absolute value and the difference absolute value, a fault happening phase is positioned. According to the wire fault positioning method and the system provided by the invention, each fault phase in the fault happening region can be thoroughly and accurately positioned, and safety of a power system is further improved.
