Embodiment Construction

[0061] The following description presents exemplary embodiments of systems and methods for optimizing wind farm operations. In particular, the embodiments shown herein disclose a method for data-driven modeling of wake effects by influencing data typically collected by Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) servers at wind farms . The collected data may include wake parameters including environmental conditions, geometry of the wind farm, and / or operational information corresponding to the wind turbine. At least some of the wake parameters (e.g., geometry) may be known or have been received, while some other wake parameters (e.g., environmental conditions) may be continuously monitored to assist in wind farm level Estimate the wake effect.

[0062] Environmental conditions may include, for example, prevailing wind direction, wind speed detected at an upstream wind turbine (upstream wind speed), wind speed detected at a downstream wind turbine (downstream wind speed...

Abstract

Embodiments of methods 200 and systems for optimizing operation of a wind farm 100 are presented. The method 200 includes receiving 210 new values corresponding to at least some wake parameters for wind turbines 102 in the wind farm 100. The method 200 further includes identifying 212 new sets of interacting wind turbines 102 from the wind turbines 102 based on the new values. Additionally, the method 200 includes developing 214 a farm-level predictive wake model for the new sets of interacting wind turbines 102 based on the new values and historical wake models determined using historical values of the wake parameters corresponding to reference sets of interacting wind turbines 102 in the wind farm 100. Furthermore, the method 200 includes adjusting 216 one or more control settings for at least the new sets of interacting wind turbines 102 based on the farm-level predictive wake model.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to wind turbines, and more particularly to methods and systems for optimizing wind farm operations. Background technique [0002] Renewable energy sources are increasingly used as cleaner and cost-effective alternatives to fossil fuels to supply global energy needs. Wind energy, in particular, has emerged as one of the most popular energy sources because it is abundant, renewable, widely distributed, and clean. Generally, wind energy is harnessed by wind turbines designed to generate electrical energy in response to a wide range of wind speeds. These wind turbines are typically located in wind farms distributed across a particular geographic area such that wind passing over the area causes blades associated with the wind turbines to rotate. Rotating each of the blades in turn causes the rotor of the associated generator to turn, which helps generate electrical energy. [0003] Traditionally, win...
