Embodiment Construction

[0016] A further understanding of the exemplary embodiments may be obtained with reference to the following description and drawings, wherein like elements are referenced with the same reference numerals. Exemplary embodiments relate to systems and methods for viewing medical images. Specifically, the exemplary embodiments describe extracting the context of a current imaging study to aid in reporting the results of the current imaging study. The context of the current imaging study can be used to generate a context-driven summary of previous studies, suggest relevant templates / macros corresponding to the current study and / or identify all relevant findings that should be reported in the final report. Although the exemplary embodiments have been specifically described with respect to reading images of cancer patients in radiology departments, those skilled in the art will understand that the systems and methods of the present disclosure may be used in any of a variety of hospita...

Abstract

A system, method and computer readable storage medium for generating a context driven summary view of medical findings by retrieving a current study including at least one image to be analyzed, extracting current context information from the current study and storing the current context information in a database and matching the current context information with prior context information from prior studies to return a set of relevant prior studies.

Description

Background technique [0001] Radiologists need to process an increasing number of images to optimally diagnose and treat patients. For example, patients such as cancer patients often undergo many imaging exams, accumulating in their medical records many studies related to the same anatomical region. Whenever a new study needs to be read, the radiologist opens the current order to understand why the study has been performed and what previous findings the patient had. However, imaging orders contain limited information about findings such that radiologists need to unpack the results of the most relevant previous studies to better understand the status of the patient's findings. However, this previous report may not contain sufficient information on all relevant findings, thereby providing an incomplete overview of the patient's discovery history. Therefore, radiologists often need to open multiple previous reports and / or images, and establish mental links between related findin...
