Abstract

A corn head assembly for a combine harvester capable of preventing or inhibiting grain from sliding off a row unit without inhibiting crop flow is disclosed. The corn head assembly is attached to a combine harvester for harvesting crop material. The corn head assembly includes a frame, a conveyor and a plurality of row units. Each row unit includes a catch plate for facingly engaging a flow of crop material and includes a facing surface having a nonplanar geometry. The nonplanar geometry is at least one of corrugations, scales, waves, chevron-shaped corrugations, weld beads, rods, and terraces.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to corn header assemblies for combine harvesters. In particular, the present invention relates to an improved corn header assembly that includes a collection plate. Background technique [0002] Combine harvesters that harvest corn are provided with a crop divider, also commonly referred to as a nose, for directing rows of corn stalks to an ear separation chamber or ear board, and then to a section for conveying the corn to the combine harvester. Augers in the feeding chamber. The harvested corn then travels to an interior compartment of the combine where the kernels are released from the cobs. [0003] Conventional corn header assemblies have smooth areas behind their ear boards for sliding the harvested corn to the auger of the corn header assembly. However, these smooth areas allow the harvested corn to Swipe away from the auger. As such, the corn sliding off the auger falls to the ground and results in c...
