Abstract

The invention relates to an image processing method and apparatus and a character recognition method and apparatus. The image processing method comprises: extracting textural features of a gray image and generating a textural feature graph; determining a connected domain in the textural feature graph and circumscribed rectangles of the connected domain; and according to feature parameters of respective pixel points of each of the circumscribed rectangles, determining whether an image in each circumscribed rectangle is a character image or not. According to the image processing method and apparatus, the connected domain is obtained according to the textural feature graph of the gray image, and then whether the image in each circumscribed rectangle is the character image or not is judged according to the feature parameters of the pixel points in the circumscribed rectangles of the connected domain, so that when a selected picture is subjected to text recognition, only a part determined as the character image needs to be recognized. Therefore, the calculation amount is reduced, the recognition speed is increased, and the time is shortened.
