Embodiment Construction

[0022] The techniques described herein for supporting location services for devices (e.g., HNBs and UEs) can be used in a variety of wireless networks and radio technologies, including Those technologies defined by the organization "3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2)". For example, these techniques can be used in Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) networks defined by 3GPP to implement Universal Terrestrial Radio Access (UTRA), to implement Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access (E-UTRA) networks defined by 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks, etc. WCDMA is part of the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS). LTE is part of the 3GPP Evolved Packet System (EPS). WCDMA, LTE, UTRA, E-UTRA, UMTS and EPS are described in documents from 3GPP. These techniques may also be used for other wireless networks (eg, 3GPP and 3GPP2 networks) and other radio technologies.

[0023] The techniques described herein may also be used in various user plane...

Abstract

Techniques are disclosed for supporting location services for a Home Node B (HNB) and its User Equipment (UE). In one aspect, location services for UEs may be supported by having HNBs interworking between user plane location solutions and control plane location solutions. In one design, the HNB receives a request for location service for a UE and communicates (i) with a location server via a user plane location solution and (ii) with the UE via a control plane location solution to support location service for the UE. HNB swaps work between user plane solutions and control plane solutions. In another aspect, a location server may be used to support Assisted GNSS (A-GNSS) for HNBs and UEs. In one design, the HNB exchanges PCAP messages with the location server and RRC messages with the UE via the HNB GW to support location services for the UE.

Description
