The method comprises the steps that the air conditioner is controlled to start a heating mode, an external fan is controlled to run at the minimum wind grade, and a compressor runs at first frequency until running time on a first preset condition reaches first preset time to make fins condense; next, the external fan is controlled to stop running, and the compressor runs at second frequency until running time on a second preset condition reaches second preset time to make the fins frost; lastly, the air conditioner is controlled to switch into a refrigeration mode from the heating mode, the external fan and an internal fan are controlled to run at the wind grade corresponding to the outdoor environment temperature, and the compressor runs at third frequency until running time on a third preset condition reaches third preset time to make the fins defrost. According to the technical scheme, automatic cleaning of the outdoor unit can be achieved just through moisture in outdoor air, and therefore cost can be effectively saved.
