Embodiment Construction

[0018] Embodiments described herein allow a user to request that a biometric image or sequence of biometric images be scanned and matched to reference data before changing settings of an electronic device. Any suitable biometric data may be used, including but not limited to fingerprints, facial recognition, voice recognition, retinal recognition, thermal pattern and vein recognition. As one example, a user may be required to enter one or more fingerprint images and match to a reference fingerprint image before changing the power off setting of the electronic device. For example, power settings may be disabled and the device turned off by pressing a power button or through a menu displayed on the display of the electronic device.

[0019] As another example, a user may be required to enter and match one or more fingerprint images to a reference fingerprint image before changing network communication settings for disabling one or more network services. Requiring entry of a fin...

Abstract

An electronic device can include a processing device operatively connected to a biometric sensing device. The processing device can be adapted to compare one or more captured biometric images with respective reference biometric images and change one or more settings of the electronic device or one or more settings of an application on the electronic device only when each captured biometric image matches a respective reference biometric image.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This Patent Cooperation Treaty patent application claims priority to U.S. nonprovisional patent application 14 / 020,662, filed September 6, 2013, and entitled "UserVerification for Changing a Setting of an Electronic Device," which is incorporated in its entirety by Incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to electronic devices, and more particularly to biometric sensing devices included in or connected to electronic devices. Still more particularly, the present invention relates to verifying a user's identity prior to changing one or more settings of an electronic device. Background technique [0004] Many electronic devices can be accessed directly and remotely using input devices and output devices in the electronic device. For example, a laptop computer or smartphone may interact with another electronic device using a wired network connection and / or a wireless networ...
