Abstract

The present invention discloses an implantable control module for an implantable electrical stimulation system comprising a housing, at least a portion of the exterior of which forms a metal structure and at least a portion of the interior defines a sealed compartment. The control module also includes: an electronics subassembly disposed in the sealed compartment; a connector assembly coupled to the housing and defining ports for receiving lead wires; connector contacts disposed in the ports to electrically contact terminals of the lead wires coupling; a feedthrough interconnect extending from the connector assembly into the sealed compartment and coupling the connector contacts to the electronic subassembly; and a coil disposed within or on the housing and constructed and arranged as A short circuit is applied upon application of the external electromagnetic field to resist generation of eddy currents in the metallic structure external to the sealed housing in response to the external electromagnetic field.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 874,835 filed September 6, 2013 under 35 U.S.C. §119(e), which is hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to the field of implantable electrical stimulation systems and methods of making and using such systems. The present invention also relates to methods and systems for reducing heat from an implantable pulse generator of the system during exposure of a patient to an applied electromagnetic field, and methods of making and using an electrical stimulation system. Background technique [0004] Implantable electrical stimulation systems have demonstrated efficacy in a variety of diseases and disorders. For example, spinal cord stimulation systems have been used as a treatment modality for the treatment of chronic pain syndromes. Circumferential nerve stimulation has been utilized to trea...
