Abstract

A display device and a display apparatus are disclosed. The display device includes a signal receiver receiving first and second image signals, a signal processor processing the received first and second image signals, and a display panel displaying first and second images. The display panel includes a liquid crystal layer, a first backlight unit arranged at a first side of the liquid crystal layer and configured to provide light entering the first side of the liquid crystal layer and emitted to a first zone at a second side to display the first image signal, and a second backlight unit arranged at the second side of the liquid crystal layer and configured to provide light entering the second side of the liquid crystal layer and emitted to a second zone at the first side to display the second image signal. The second zone at the first side and the first zone at the second side do not overlap at a direction perpendicular to the first side and the second side. Accordingly, the double-sided viewable display apparatus comprises at least a liquid crystal display and two backlight units, thus reducing the size and the cost when providing a double-sided viewable function.
