Embodiment Construction

[0027] The implantable atrial pacemaker device of the present disclosure is configured to be implanted in an atrium of a patient's heart. The atrial device can pace the atrium, sense intrinsic atrial electrical activity, and detect ventricular activation. The atrial device may control the timing at which pacing pulses are delivered to the atria based on the detected atrial and ventricular activity.

[0028] The atrial device may include a sealed housing having a size and form factor that allows the atrial device to be implanted within the atrium. In some examples, the housing may have a cylindrical (eg, pill-shaped) form factor. The housing may include fixed teeth connecting the housing to cardiac tissue within the atrium. The fixed teeth may anchor the atrial device to atrial heart tissue such that the atrial device moves with the atrial heart tissue during systole.

[0029] The housing of the atrial device may house components for sensing electrical activity of the heart,...

Abstract

A method for adjusting a pacing rate of a dual-chamber leadless pacemaker implanted in a heart may comprise determining a native atrial pacemaker of the atrium using a leadless atrial pacemaker implanted in the atrium of the heart a rate of contraction faster than a rate of ventricular contraction; transmitting a first signal from the atrial pacemaker to a leadless ventricular pacemaker implanted within a ventricle of the heart to increase the ventricular pacing rate of the ventricular pacemaker; receiving the transmitted first signal with the ventricular pacemaker; and increasing the ventricular pacing rate based on the received first signal.
