Abstract

In the present invention, an image processing unit includes an image acquisition unit, a correlation determination unit, a reference image generation unit, and an interpolation image generation unit. The image acquisition unit acquires an original image. The correlation determination unit determines whether the correlation between image components of a primary reference band and image components of bands other than the primary reference band is high or low. The reference image generation unit, on the basis of the correlation determination results, switches the method for interpolating missing pixels in the image components of the primary reference band and carries out interpolation, and thereby generates a primary reference image. The interpolation image generation unit uses the correlation determination results and the primary reference image to interpolate the missing pixels in at least a portion of the image components of the primary reference band.
