System and method for adaptive antenna impedance matching

A transceiver includes a transmitter and a homodyne receiver, wherein the receiver is used to process both antenna-received and antenna-reflected signals. Thus, during a receive mode, for example, the receiver downconverts antenna-received signals to baseband signals, which are then processed to recover receive signal information. Then, during a transmit mode for example, antenna-reflected transmit signals are fed back to the receiver, which is retuned to the desired transmit frequency, and thus downconverts the reflected transmit signals to baseband signals. These baseband signals are then processed to obtain a characterization of impedance mismatch between the transceiver's transmitter and the associated antenna. An adjustable matching network disposed in the transmit signal path thus may be adjusted based on the characterization to reduce the mismatch. Such configurations may be used with either single-band or multi-band embodiments of the transceiver, and the transceiver may be used in both TDMA and CDMA communication systems.

DC inductive FSS technology is a printed slow wave structure usable for reduced size resonators in antenna and filter applications of wireless applications. It is a dispersive surface defined in terms of its parallel LC equivalent circuit that enhances the inductance and capacitance of the equivalent circuit to obtain a pole frequency as low as 300 MHz. The effective sheet impedance model has a resonant pole whose free-space wavelength can be greater than 10 times the FSS period. A conductor-backed DCL FSS can create a DC inductive artificial magnetic conductor (DCL AMC), high-impedance surface with resonant frequencies as low as 2 GHz. Lorentz poles introduced into the DCL FSS create multi-resonant DCL AMCs. Antennas fabricated from DCL FSS materials include single-band elements such as a bent-wire monopole on the DCL AMC and multi-band (dual and triple) shorted patches, similar to PIFAs with the patch / lid being a DCL FSS.

A front-end circuit for a wireless communication unit includes at least two antenna feeds. At least one of the antennas is coupled to an antenna switch. The circuit comprises filters and duplexers and is prepared to operate a number of FDD frequency bands. Each FDD band comprises an Rx band for receive signals and a Tx band for transmit signals. The circuit provides a single band operation mode for each frequency band and aggregated band operation modes. In an aggregated band operation mode Rx signals can be received in two different frequency bands at the same time as well as Tx signals can be transmitted in at least one of the two different frequency bands. In addition, TDD bands as well as GSM bands are covered.

Hybrid Passive Active Broadband Antenna for a Distributed Antenna System

The invention is directed to a method and system for equalizing the signal losses over cable runs in a Distributed Antenna System (DAS). In a DAS, two or more antennae are connected to the system by cable runs that can vary widely in length. As a result, the signal loss over a given cable run can also vary widely which can impact the design and deployment of the DAS and reduce antenna spacing. In addition, for a broadband DAS that supports many frequency bands or ranges using a common antenna unit, the signal losses vary with respect to frequency further making it difficult to equalize the cable losses. According to one embodiment of the invention, the method and system provide for measuring and adjusting the signal losses of each cable run to be a predefined value. According to another embodiment of the invention, the DAS can include a hybrid passive-active antenna unit for use in a DAS which includes a frequency multiplexer that separates the signal into frequency bands or ranges that are connected to an antenna element associated with a particular frequency band or range. Where a single frequency band needs to be amplified (or attenuated), a single band amplification block (SBAB) can be inserted in the connection between the frequency multiplexer and the antenna element to amplify (or attenuate) the desired frequency band. Where more than one frequency band need to be amplified (or attenuated), a multiband amplification block (MBAB) can be inserted in the connection between the frequency multiplexer and the appropriate antenna element to amplify (or attenuate) the desired frequency bands.

A hard disk drive that includes a disk with data written onto a plurality of tracks, a spindle motor that rotates the disk, and a head that is coupled to the disk. The disk drive also includes a circuit that writes data onto a first writable shingle band of tracks if the first writable shingle band is adjacent to a guard band of tracks. The first writable shingle band includes a number of tracks that is a function of a head width. The guard band of tracks is capable of becoming a writable shingle band. Changing the designation of a shingle band between guard and writable creates floating guard bands. The creation of floating guard bands allows for the writing of a single band without having to move and restore adjacent tracks until reaching a fixed guard band as required in the prior art.

Vehicle occupancy detection via single band infrared imaging

What is disclosed is a method for vehicle occupancy detection using a single band infrared imaging system. First, an infrared image of a vehicle intended to be processed for human occupancy detection is captured using a single band infrared camera set to a predefined wavelength band. A candidate sub-image is identified within the captured image. A cumulative histogram is formed using the reflectance values of each pixel in the candidate region. A threshold reflectance value is then determined from the cumulative histogram using a pre-defined cumulative occurrence fraction value which corresponds to a value equivalent to an average sized human face. Embodiments for setting the threshold reflectance value are disclosed. Thereafter, human occupants can be distinguished in the image from the vehicle's interior by comparing pixel reflectances in the sub-image against the threshold reflectance value.

The invention provides a pipeline leakage feature vector extraction method based on an improved wavelet packet and relates to the technical field of signal feature extraction. The method comprises the first step, the second step and the third step of acquiring a signal and conducting denoising on the signal, the fourth step of adopting an improved wavelet packet algorithm to reconstruct a single-band signal, and the last two steps of extracting a feature vector. In order to overcome the shortcomings of a traditional wavelet packet algorithm, the improved wavelet packet algorithm is disclosed, and a signal prolongation mode and a signal processing mode after convolution are combined to improve the wavelet packet algorithm. A parabola prolongation mode is adopted in the improved algorithm, and FFT and IFFT are adopted in the signal processing mode after convolution. Test results show that the phenomenon of redundant frequency components generated during reconstruction of the single-band signal can be overcome by the improved algorithm, a leakage feature signal is accurately reconstructed, and the feature vector is accurately extracted. The pipeline leakage feature vector extraction method greatly increases detection accuracy, reduces the false alarm rate and also lays a foundation for improving follow-up locating precision.
