Problems solved by technology

However, if the external temperature sensor is improperly installed, the temperature sensor measurement may be affected by the heat source or may not indicate the actual air temperature entering the AHU
[0007] While humidity and temperature sensors can optionally provide ventilation to the AHU, their remote location from the airlock can complicate installation of the sensors and overall system
Presettings for temperature and humidity sensors must also be properly set and updated regularly to prevent condensation from building up inside the AHU, which could lead to mold or other harmful effects

Abstract

An energy recovery ventilator ("ERV") that connects the outside air intake to the outside air supply or interior space of the AHU. The ERV includes an airlock to control the incoming flow of outside air into the AHU or interior space. A humidity sensor and a temperature sensor may be installed in the inlet air path near the airlock to monitor the temperature and humidity of the outside air passing through the outside air inlet near the ERV. Airlocks may be positioned based on the measured temperature and humidity of the outside air to control the supply of outside air to the AHU or interior space.

Description

technical field [0001] This document relates generally, but not by way of limitation, to energy recovery ventilators configured to selectively control the amount of outdoor air intake into an air handler unit. Background technique [0002] Air distribution systems for domestic ventilation in hot and humid climates, such as the southern United States, typically include an air handler unit ("AHU") for handling recirculated air through the interior space. Typically, a duct extending from an external port is connected to the AHU to introduce outside air to the air handler unit, with a damper in the duct controlling the entry of outside air to the AHU. In these "air circulators" or central fan integration systems, a controller powers the airlock to control the entry of outside air to the AHU and the corresponding interior space. [0003] The humidity sensor may be used to control the operation of the airlock to control the humidity of the air entering and inside the AHU by contr...
