The invention discloses a loose-strand defect detection method for a power transmission line based on a visible light image, and the method comprises the steps: mainly taking a robot as a routing inspection carrier, and collecting a visible light wire image of the power transmission line through a high-definition PTZ camera on the robot; extracting the boundary contour of each strand of the wire through image preprocessing, image segmentation and subpixel edge extraction algorithms, and then determining final suspected loose strands of the wire according to the direction angle and circular degree of each strand of the power transmission line through analyzing the arrangement features and distribution relation of the surface strands of the power transmission line; and judging the position of a loose-strand fault of the power transmission line through the distances between the suspected loose strand and the contour lines of the adjacent strands at two sides of the suspected loose strands.
