Embodiment Construction

[0014] The present disclosure generally describes computer-implemented methods, software, and systems for exploiting correlation and equivalence statements in data models. These types of features can be used, for example, to optimize raw data requests and help ensure fast response times and improved user experience, eg, reduced latency. For example, queries based on the data model can be generated, including using correlation and equivalence statements, to produce a form of the query that can be processed more efficiently.

[0015] In some implementations, data that is the target of a query can be distributed among various data sources of a connected system, where data elements within the data sources have associations between each other. The associations may include relationships such as correlation and equivalence between fields (eg, columns in a database table). In a relational data model, for example, foreign keys may be used to represent and / or enable such associations b...

Abstract

The present disclosure generally describes methods, software, and systems, including methods for defining and utilizing correlations and equivalences for data elements in a data model to improve query efficiency. During the design of the data model, the correlation and equivalence for the data elements in the data model are received through the computer network. Correlations and equivalences are stored with the data model in persistent storage. A request is received over a computer network to be executed to obtain a result from a database associated with the data model. An optimized query is generated using the received requests and correlations and equivalences. An optimized query is optimized relative to the received request.

Description

technical field [0001] This disclosure relates to the generation of queries for obtaining results from a database. Background technique [0002] Systems and databases are capable of handling requests for data, such as database queries. For example, such as with a relational database management system (RDBMS), queries entered by a user or formulated based on user input or based on other inputs may be generated and executed against a relational database. In some cases, queries can be formulated at runtime. Queries can be very complex depending on the inputs on which they are based. For example, complex queries may be generated from information associated with end-user input such as filter or mining settings. In some cases, queries may contain complex combinations of, for example, unions and joins of multiple database tables or stacked combinations of modeled data sources potentially making queries complex. Regardless of the complexity of the query, end users expect a promp...
